The staff at White Oak Cottages consists of certified nursing assistants, nurses, an activities coordinator, and an administrator, known as a Guide. A dietician, social worker and a nurse supervisor consult with the staff as needed.
The certified nurse assistants undergo a 3 week training program when they are hired by White Oak. This training includes intensive training in memory loss and dementia care, culinary preparation, and Serv-Safe certification. This training turns the aides into versatile workers, who provide personal care and manage the household.
White Oak is the only assisted living residence in the Greater Boston area that has a nurse on site 24 hours a day
There is not another assisted living or memory care residence in the Greater Boston area, South Shore Massachusetts or Metrowest region that has a nurse on location 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. No matter what time of day or night, the nurse is able to evaluate a Resident’s condition or give medication. There is no need to juggle medication time to accommodate the staff schedule.
Where is the office?
There is only a small staff office because the staff members spend most of their time with the Residents. The Green House model requires the staff to be continuously engaged with the Residents. Staff members eat lunch and dinner with the Residents, and engage with Residents throughout the day.
Low staff turnover
Green House homes report much lower turnover rates among their staffs. The expanded role of the versatile worker and the emphasis on respect and staff autonomy have resulted in high job satisfaction at Green House homes. High job satisfaction is directly related to lower turnover, and both are linked to more consistent and informed care to the Residents.
